How can European countries better support parents of young children with special needs during the most critical years of development? This question brought together experts, parents, and community organizations from four countries during a webinar held on 28 January 2026 within the Erasmus+ project M-Power.
The event gathered 59 participants from Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands to explore what works—and what still needs to change—in early childhood support services. The interest and highly positive feedback confirmed a shared need for better coordination, earlier intervention, and stronger parental empowerment.
The M-Power project, implemented by Karin Dom Foundation (Bulgaria), Paideia Foundation (Italy), Babeș-Bolyai University (Romania), and Soft Tulip Foundation (the Netherlands), aims to develop practical learning resources that strengthen parents’ confidence, wellbeing, and peer-to-peer support when raising children with special needs.
During the webinar, partners presented national perspectives that revealed both inspiring practices and important gaps. Italy showcased its structured healthcare follow-up and strong early detection programs, highlighting the decisive role of intervention during the first 1,000 days of life. Romania shared its progress toward integrated, family-centered early intervention services, while also pointing to ongoing challenges in access and consistency. Bulgaria indicate the important role of mobile, home-based early intervention services, especially for families in smaller communities, alongside the need for clearer regulation and workforce development. The Netherlands presented a highly developed system with strong cross-sector collaboration and innovative parent support networks.
Beyond country insights, the discussion emphasized a common message: early support changes lives—not only for children, but for entire families. Participants expressed interest in continued dialogue, practical tools, and opportunities to exchange experience and good practices across borders.
The M-Power project will continue to build on this momentum through upcoming events, learning materials, and community-focused activities designed to empower parents and professionals alike.
Full country reports on early childhood support services in Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands will be published in March 2026.
