Silviya holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Health Management, obtained in 2006. In June 2007, she completed a second Master’s degree in Special Education at Sofia University. From August 2007 to August 2009, she studied and worked in a Master’s research programme in Social Sciences at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) in Monterrey, Mexico.
Between 2009 and 2013, she pursued a PhD within a bilateral doctoral programme between UANL and the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Her dissertation, which addressed the challenges faced by people with disabilities in Monterrey and Dallas, was awarded UTA’s Dissertation Fellowship for Best Dissertation. In July 2014, it also received first place in a national competition in the United States for academic research on disability issues.
Since September 2014, she has been an Assistant Professor of Social Medicine and Biostatistics at the Department of Social Medicine and Healthcare Organisation at the Medical University of Varna.
