About Karin Dom Foundation

Our vision

Karin Dom Foundation is committed to seeing a better quality of life and equal opportunities for people with disabilities in Bulgaria.

Our mission

To support the social inclusion of children with special needs and their families through professional services, advocacy, and raising public awareness.

Our objectives

  1. To provide values based professional services to children with special needs and to their families in order to prevent children from being abandoned in institutions and to help their successful inclusion into the life of the community.
  2. To disseminate good practices by providing trainings and consultations to parents and professionals working with children with special needs and adhering to international standards.

Our aim is early intervention and early inclusion.

Around 150 children per year (up to 30 children a day) have consultations, physiotherapy, special classes, art and music sessions, swimming, and integrated activities with other children both at Karin Dom and in the community.

We work with children from 0 months to 18 years old with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, mental disorders, sensory problems, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, and children with multiple disabilities.

Each child has an individual therapy / teaching plan.

A professional team (physiotherapists, speech therapists, special education teachers, psychologists, social worker, pediatrician) provides services at the Centre, visits schools and kindergartens, and goes on home visits. We also provide training for parents and for other professionals working with children with disabilities.

Karin Dom Foundation is a non-governmental organization (NGO), Court Reg. No. 2560 of 1994.

  • Non-Profit Organization, working in Public Benefit - Reg. No. 20040121004 - Certificate No. 004 by the Ministry of Justice.
  • License No. 0095 by the State Agency for Child Protection in Bulgaria to provide services as a Centre for Rehabilitation and Social Integration of Children with Special Needs and Their Families.
  • Certificate of Registration No. 844 by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy - Agency for Social Support.
  • The governing body is a Management Board with a Chairman.
  • Since 11.09.2009 Karin Dom has been licensed as a Centre for Vocational Training, license No. 200912790.
