The Social Protection Fund finances an innovative project of Karin Dom

21 September 2018

In July, Karin Dom started the project “Center for Family-Mediated Intervention Project”, which aims to present and to introduce an innovative service for Bulgaria, in which the family is the driving force based on the recognition of its strengths and competencies.

The project provides support for families of children with special needs from 2 to 7 years with the purpose to improve the development of the child and the quality of life of the family. You can learn more about the project and the opinions of the parents from the BNT report.

Right now, 15 children with special needs are included in the service, as well as their parents, close to them and caregivers. The centre includes three specialized groups – children from the autistic spectrum, children with multiple disabilities and children with functional impairments.

From 01.10 there will be 5 new children to join the Center. Since the beginning of the project, one of the children included in the project has already successfully integrated into a children’s school.

The method is based on the successful experience of specialists at the University of Oregon, USA. It has been applied for five years in Europe and for the first time in Bulgaria, told on Radio Varna Zvezdelina Atanasova, director of the training centre of Karin Dom. Listen to the interview with parents involved in the project in front of Mariela Dimitrova Radio Varna!

The project is unique in the country and is funded by the Social Protection Fund of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. You can learn about the project from here.
