All parents, whose children use therapeutic services at Karin Dom, can join a parent group for mutual support every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m., as well as individual consultations with our psychologist and psychotherapist – Virginia Vasileva.
Navigating the path of parenting when a child has special needs is a task with many unknowns. This is not a well-trodden path that friends and relatives have already walked… Walking this path, the parent often feels alone, confused, misunderstood… Sometimes enthusiastic, sometimes desperate, angry, sad or at the edge of their strength…
Letter from a Parent
“The services of Karin Dom have often saved us in situations when I thought there was no way out! They help our child and us as a family, but to one person I will remain infinitely grateful. I’ll call her Vergie. This woman really saved me, gave me a hand, showed me that I can cope, that I’m not alone and that it makes sense! Her support taught me to be kind to myself first, so I could unlock my superpowers as a Super (Important) Mom, as all moms who found their place in Karin Dom are!
Individual meetings give me guidance on how to deal with my own fears and not allow the storm in my head and soul to affect my children, how to find solutions to problems that I thought were unsolvable, how to be more humble, how to have the self-confidence that my child deserves to have his mother, because to me my child is the biggest hero I know! And meetings with the other parents… um, it wasn’t love at first sight, I wondered a lot and thought it wasn’t my thing but trust me it’s one of the best decisions of my life. Feeling alone and lonely and asking the same question in your head every day “why did this happen to me?” is part of the process of motherhood when, as I saw it, “the worst thing happened” (namely your child has a health problem). But to know that you are not alone in this world, to be able to speak openly about the things that bother you and to see understanding and sincere sympathy from people you do not know, and then become closer with them than with some of your closest friends was something priceless and really important to me.
I could go on but I’ll try to summarize. Vergie has become my biggest support in the fight for my mental health, because for Supermoms like us, it is really important.
For this and many other things, I am endlessly grateful that this service and Karin Dom exist!”
Parental consultations are a space for sharing daily difficulties, information and emotional support of mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, foster parents who take care of the children receiving therapy at Karin Dom.
The purpose of consultations with a psychologist/psychotherapist is to reduce parents anxiety and tension regarding their child’s condition. The psychologist does not provide ready-made solutions. It helps parents to look at problematic situations from another angle, informs them about all possible options and thus helps parents to make the right decisions for their child, as well as to rediscover a new meaning of what is happening in the family.

As a psychologist at Karin Dom, Verzhi conducts group and individual therapy with children with various difficulties, applying a family-oriented and family-mediated approach. She is part of the training team of Karin Dom. She also conducts parental consultations at Karin Dom and is part of the “Early Intervention” team, which works with children from 0 to 3 years old. She believes that the successful therapy unites the entire microworld of the child – family, kindergarten, therapists. Vergie is a certified ABA and PECS therapist. In 2017 she acquired a European certificate in psychotherapy.
She is the author of the children’s books “Playing Together” and “Mommy’s Business Trip” – from the series “Karin, the Elephant and the Superpowers”, which was recently published by Karin Dom. These are a series of books for developing the emotional literacy of the youngest readers. In Let’s Play Together, the main character Karin learns to overcome her anxiety. The messages in the books are that every child has superpowers and they just have to believe in them. Sometimes superpowers rest and just need to be awakened.
Virginia also recently wrote “A Parent’s Guide. For families with children from 0 to 3 years old”, which is also distributed by Karin Dom.
The consultations are free of charge and are financed by the Karin Dom project from the Medicor Foundation, Liechtenstein.
