Support for Children and Families from Ukraine, Including Children with Special Needs, to Overcome the Trauma of War

Project goal:

We aim to provide complete therapeutic, educational and psychological support that is tailored to the individual needs and requirements of children and families with this project proposal. Ukrainian mothers with children as well as whole families flee the war and desperately seek shelter, understanding and care. As an organization that has been working for more than 25 years for the benefit of vulnerable groups and especially children with special needs, Karin Dom has the capacity and resources to adequately support more than 20 children and their families in this difficult war period and the humanitarian catastrophe it creates.

Through the project activities we will offer therapeutic and other individual and group activities for children with special needs and typical children, as well as the necessary full and psychological support for their families.

Activities:

Through intensive weekly therapy, activities in the toy library, joint outdoor integration activities and support and training for parents, we will support families in the process of overcoming the trauma of war, we will meet the educational needs of their children, we will support parents of children with special needs so that they could continue working with their children to develop their capacity despite the difficult situation in which they find themselves.

Expected results:

A valuable need emerges as a result of our work and monitoring of the current situation and through our communication with parents and other organizations working with refugees – namely for the refugees to be involved in various activities, incl. therapeutic where necessary, for inclusion, for overcoming the trauma of war, for acceptance by other children, for joint activities and exchange of experience. Children and families will have the opportunity to do all this by engaging in interesting educational, eco and sports activities and initiatives aimed at interaction and joint work and at building trust. The project activities will prove that children from Ukraine can communicate efficiently and positively, work together and create together, exchange experiences, ideas and viewpoints and thus increase not only their education and understanding but also to promote tolerance and change attitudes at home, at work and among friends.
