Just before Christmas of 2013 three of Karin Dom’s staff members had a practical training at Spring Common School, Huntingdon, England. The one-week practice was part of a mobility project, financed by the Human Resources Development Centre. The visit was very beneficial to our colleagues, in regard to their work as therapists and trainers. The programme was well organized and rich, so as to meet the individual professional interests of each participant.
Amongst the activities observed were sensory tales and stories, music interaction in sensory room, communication with gestures and pictures, individual sessions with children from the autistic spectrum using TEACCH; individual and group work with children with multiple disabilities. The participants paid attention to the structuring of the environment into different areas: for circle time, group work, writing, free time as well as alternating the activities into the daily schedule.
These models and their proper application in our practice will contribute to the effectiveness of the therapies and better results in achieving each child’s individual goals and objectives. They are applicable for children with multiple disabilities, which is very important. The purpose of this kind of mobility is the exchange of experience, getting ideas, learning about new methods and therapies for children and dissemination of those good practices in Bulgaria through the training that Karin Dom staff provides.
This kind of mobility is valuable to any therapist or professional. The feeling of visiting another country and seeing that you work with the same high level of professionalism, is very stimulating and motivates you to learn more and develop.
