Happy Social Work and Social Worker Day!
Today, we have one more reason for happiness and proudness – the colleague Marina Peycheva was awarded from the Municipality of Varna for contribution and dedicated work in the social area! Always be dedicated to the profession, Marinka! We wish you satisfaction and much more success!
Today, on 16th March, the International day of social work, eight social workers and one foster family were awarded for dedicated work in social services by the mayor of Varna Ivan Portnih.
Awards received:
“I appeal to all those who have accepted social work as their cause, with a huge thank you. In the Municipality of Varna, there are over 900 people who take care of people with disabilities every day. Many of them got involved with voluntary work, to help quarantined and socially disabled citizens! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!” – said mayor Ivan Portnih.
He reminded us that in the conditions of a pandemic the Municipality of Varna continues its policy for improving the access and the quality of the offered social services. Proof of this is the increased budget for social activities, which in 2021 increased by 22%. A new social service “Assistant Support” worth BGN 2.9 million will be launched this year. It will provide hourly support for 728 people in need. The 58 social services offered by the municipality, 30 for adults and 28 for children, will continue to operate. Only a few days ago, both new social care centers for people with various forms of dementia and their families, which are to be equipped, were completed, said Ivan Portnih.
“You will continue to receive huge support from us,” he told the award-winning social workers. The celebration was attended by Kosta Bazitov, Deputy Mayor, Tanya Vasileva, Director of the Social Activities Directorate, and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
World Social Work Day was first celebrated in 2007, on the initiative of the International Federation of Social Workers, in gratitude for its contribution to the good of the world community. Since then, this day is celebrated every third Tuesday of March. The motto that unites them this year is “I am because we are”.
Congratulations to all whose vocation and cause is social work!
