Karin dom at the Annual Eurochild Conference

Eurochild’s 9th Annual Conference took place from 24-26 October 2012 in Sofia under the slogan “Promoting the rights of children in alternative care across Europe”.

Eurochild is a network of organizations and individuals working in and across Europe to improve the quality of life of children and young people and it has 113 Full Members and 34 Associate Members in 35 European countries. Karin Dom became a member of Eurochild this year and our Chairman – Mr. Ivan Stancioff and our colleagues Apostol and Veselina had the opportunity to take part in one of the workgroups for the members – “Early Child Development and Care“, as well as to actively participate in the conference. 

The conference was co-hosted by the Bulgarian organization National Network for Children. Among the representatives of the Bulgarian institutions were Tsetska Tsacheva – Chairwoman of the the National Assembly of Bulgaria, Valentina Simeonova – Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Rosen Plevneliev – President of Bulgaria, the European Commissioners Kristalina Georgieva and others. 

Participants had the opportunity to meet young people who were raised in institutions in different European countries as well as to experience and share the story of Sharon Gibson and Marina Dimitrova – they have both grew up in institutions. Marina is currently a happy forest parent of  a child from an institution.

Karin dom’s representatives took part in the workshops on “Prevention of Child Abandonment” and visited organizations that implement good practices – “For Our Children” Foundation and Foundation “Association Animus”.

The last day of the conference was organized as a forum of best practices, where representatives from different countries had the opportunity to present their work. Within this forum Karin Dom presented its experience in the area of Early intervention services and Family-oriented approach.
