Karin Dom’s mellifluous friend Elitsa Stoyneva excited the audience in United States with Bulgarian folk music concert in Washington on June 25, just days after the 15th anniversary of the centre.
The charity event was held under the patronage of the Bulgarian Ambassador in the U.S. – Mrs. Elena Poptodorova, who marked the major contribution to Bulgaria of Mr. Ivan Stancioff, the founder of Karin Dom, former foreign minister and ambassador to the UK and Ireland. Mrs. Poptodorova spoke about the contribution of Mr. Stancioff to improve quality of life for children with special needs in Bulgaria and their families.
The concert at St. Dunstan Episcopal Church was attended by U.S. diplomats, representatives of the Bulgarian community, and American families, fans of our folklore.
The audience was fascinated by Trio “Elitsa” led by our talented friend Elitsa Stoyneva. She has been singing since the age of 5 and she is a winner of 7 gold medals from national folklore competitions. Elitsa is the main initiator of the concert, and the whole team and children from Karin Dom thank her from their hearts!
Besides Elitsa, there are two other talented ladies in the trio – Kirsten and Anne, who learned her first Bulgarian folk song from her famous uncle Mr. Ivan Stancioff when she was young. The Washington female ensemble “Slaveya” and dance performers “Zharava” were also a part of the concert program.
The charity concert raised over $ 2,000 from fans of our folklore. The money will be used for therapy and rehabilitation of children from Karin Dom.
The pictures from the event will be on the website very soon.
