Upcomming training: Partnership with parents. Parent support groups. April 29, 30

Dear colleagues,

We are inviting you to take part in a training on the subject of: “Partnership with parents. Parent support groups – the experience of Karin Dom”

29 and 30 of April, 2015, at Karin Dom Foundation, Varna

The training is best suited for: psychologists, social workers, school counsellors, teachers, resource teachers, managers of centers for social services for children, services at the community and other professionals who work with children with special needs and their families.

Trainers: Jenislava Sapundjieva – social psychologist, manager of mutual aid and support groups for parents; Veselina Tincheva – social activities specialist and trainer.

Building a partnership between parents and professionals who work with special needs children is an important and challenging task.

In their everyday work, professionals face difficulties of fully understanding the parents’ point of view, their behavior and motivation. Overcoming these obstacles helps the professionals to express their own point of view and communicate with the families more easily in order to include them in the therapeutic process.

The purpose of the training is to teach the participants:

• How to build trust with the parents;
• How to motivate parents for a more successful cooperation;
• What are the advantages of the family centered approach;
• How to handle the parents’ resistance;
• How to overcome the barriers in communication and how to manage conflict situations;
• How to support the parents in difficult life situations and choices;
• How to create opportunities for increasing the parents’ capacity in raising a child with special needs in home environment.

The participants will also get practical advice on planning the activities for:

– motivating the parents;
– sharing parent experience and support;
– rendering effective help;
– empower families.

At the end of the raining, the participants will also acquire basic skills for organizing and leading a group process /parent support groups.

During the seminar, interactive methods and techniques will be used: individual exercises, role playing, discussing cases and others.

Class time: every day from 9:30 AM to 17:00 PM.
