In March, Karin Dom started the project: “Early child development and school preparation for children with special needs from the country through intensive weekly therapeutic packages”, which aims to provide professional services for children aged 3-7 from the country who have developmental delays and need for therapeutic support. The project is funded by the Friends of Bulgaria Association in the UK – an organization that supports children in institutions since 1991.
In the implementation of the current project and as a result of the good cooperation with Department for Child protection and Regional Foster care team in Varna, Karin dom Foundation had a meeting with Mrs. Snezhana Borisova – Head of Regional Foster care department regarding the inclusion of foster families in the project. Meeting were very productive and promising. Mrs. Borisova shared valuable information with our team and together we analyzed potential opportunities for such families to join the program. On 16 April 2019 the foster care department in Varna held a meeting between representatives of Karin dom, representatives of foster care department and 5 foster families from the district. The meeting was attended by Zhenislava Sapundjieva – Director Children and Families Services in Karin dom, Meglena Palamudova – Social worker in Karin dom and Darina Raykova – project coordinator; Snezhana Borisova – head of regional Foster care team and a foster care social worker. At the meeting the foster parents shared what challenges and difficulties they meet in the everyday care of the children – education, communication, behavior, habits.
Thanks to the project intense therapy in Karin Dom will receive 6 foster families. The families were provided with information about Karin dom, Friends of Bulgaria Association and more details about the program – how, why and when they can join. Parents were very enthusiastic and motivated which led to the planning and setting the dates of their weekly therapy. 6 foster families from Aksakovo municipality will join the program at different times in the May-August period, keeping in touch with their social worker.
At the moment in the project are planned and families with children with special needs from different parts of Bulgaria – Dupnitsa, Plovdiv, Rousse, Silistra, Razgrad and others.
