MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates in the multidisciplinary team of specialists, performing a functional-diagnostic examination and analysis of the children’s conditions.
- Participates in the team examination of children, to study their needs and those of the family, after which to prepare an individual needs assessment and an individual support plan for the user. Develops an individual program to overcome difficulties and improve the quality of their life. It promotes to the maximum extent the development of the child’s independence in daily activities, learning and games and contributes to increasing independence, accessibility and safety of the home and social environment.
- Performs occupational therapy assessment of clients.
- Provides individual occupational therapy intervention, conducts consultations with children and parents and therapeutic individual and group sessions in a therapeutic environment, in a home environment, as well as in all environments in which the child functions.
- If necessary, visits client’s homes, children’s institutions / schools or wherever necessary in order to observe the environment and its maximum adaptation to the specific needs and condition of the child.
- Provides support for the preparation of training programs for the child in kindergarten and school according to the educational opportunities and pace of learning. Maintains contact with various specialists regarding children’s problems, needs and progress.
- Advises parents on issues about their child’s development in various areas. Determines the objectives of the support, based on an assessment of the potential and the way to achieve it. Trains the child’s relatives in activities suitable for implementation at home, which continue and maintain the effect of therapy in the home.
- Educates the parents and caregivers of a child with special needs on the care to be taken for their proper development and functioning, as well as reorganization of resources in the environment. Conducts therapy with the participation of parents and other children in the family and evaluates the effectiveness of the therapy program and modifies it in a timely manner.
- Selects appropriate methods and means of impact and therapy. Consults in the selection and trains in the use of auxiliary and orthotic devices.
- Maintains documentation necessary for therapeutic work on a case-by-case basis. Participates in the preparation of the Individual Assessment of Needs, the Individual Support Plan, their periodic updating and the Report on the Assessment of the Achieved Results. Prepares Team Opinions of the children and other required documentation for the work in Complex for social services (Family Type Foster Center) and other projects.
- Plans and reports daily working with families. Prepares monthly activity reports.
- Participates in planned meetings with parents and relatives of the children.
- Maintains and increases their professional qualification by participating in qualifications, trainings, seminars, projects, etc.
Job Requirements
- Education – higher, qualification degree: bachelor’s degree, specialty Occupational Therapy and/or qualification degree: master’s degree, specialty Occupational Therapy in the Community with a diploma from an accredited university.
- general knowledge of medical, social, educational aspects of disability conditions
- knowledge of the institutions, services and NGOs in the community and the country
- knowledge of health problems and diseases: diseases of the nervous system, neuromuscular diseases, multiple disabilities, metabolic diseases and others
