Conditions for inclusion of children with special needs:

• For children with motor difficulties – age up to 14 years.
• For children on the autism spectrum and other conditions – age up to 10 years.
• Duration 30 min.

Our “swimming” team consists of:

Patricia Eftimova (competitor in the women’s national water polo team), Simona Minkova, Daniela Nedeva, Mariyan Shterev – all of them are students at the Medical University – Varna, majoring in Kinesitherapy. The team works under the mentorship of Teodora Dimitrova, a physiotherapist with many years of experience working with children with special needs at Karin Dom.

At the end of last year, 3 of the children took part in an adapted swimming competition and won well-deserved medals in the SOFIA CUP adapted swimming tournament organized by ParaKids. All three participated in the 25m free style event.

Who are the swimming sessions at Karin Dom suitable for?

The swimming sessions are suitable for children with motor disabilities and developmental problems, such as: cerebral palsy, various genetic syndromes, children with autism spectrum disorder, etc. The age group that we can cover according to the size of our pool is from 1 up to 10 years of age for children on the autistic spectrum, and for children with motor difficulties – up to 14 years.

Medical examination, consultation with a swimming instructor, physiotherapist and social worker – why is it necessary?

Consultation with a team of specialists is necessary for children with special needs, in order to determine whether the child has no contraindications for inclusion in water therapy.

Play as a form of therapy – what is a favorite game in the pool

Children love the water very much, and the activities in the pool take place in a fun way for children in the form of games and entertainment – searching for treasures and aquatic inhabitants.
