Karin Dom on Wheels Visited the Towns of Shumen, Veliki Preslav, Varbitsa and the Village of Malomir

Karin Dom on Wheels is a project born out of a partnership between the Karl Kahane Foundation and the Karin Dom Foundation in an effort to provide innovative and supportive services for children with special needs and their families from small towns.

From November 21 to 23, 2023, specialists from the “Early Intervention” team at Karin Dom – speech therapists Svetla Lazarova, Svetlana Angelova, psychologist Mihaela Ivanova and our physiotherapist Nergis Shaip visited several settlements in the Shumen region.

On November 21, our specialists were in the town of Veliki Preslav, where they held a play group, consulted children and parents, as well as specialists working in the field of childcare facilities, social services and others. Training and supervision of specialists was also conducted, discussing case studies. On November 22, the team visited Kindergarten Mir in the village of Malomir, where they held consultations with children, parents and specialists from the children’s institution and the Play Group. Later in the day, they also visited the town of Varbitsa in order to conduct training and supervision of specialists from the municipality, discussing case studies. On November 23, they held training on early intervention, talks on early child development and supervision of the team at Center for social rehabilitation and integration – Shumen. Case studies on specific cases were also discussed.

During the visits, the team worked to popularize the Balanova method playgroup, supervise colleagues from Shumen municipality, train specialists and build intersectoral cooperation, as well as consultations with parents and children.
