Dear friends,
in the month of June we are about to celebrate 27 years since the establishment of Karin Dom and we invite you to celebrate with us! We invite you to celebrate together with summer workshops for children and parents! Our program will last in May and July.
See what we have in store for you this summer!
Emotional expression through art is extremely important for children with various conditions and diagnoses. Art enables free expression of emotions, experiences, develops imagination, improves sensory integration.
Creativity takes children away from everyday stress, from the difficulties they encounter in everyday life. It is another world where you are free to “say” anything you want without saying it out loud. Through creative activities – drawing, modeling, appliqué – the child can calm down and achieve a better emotional balance.
To model, draw, cut or outline precise movements are needed and through these activities children could learn them in a fun way. Fine motor skills are extremely important for the difficult spelling of letters and numbers in future first graders. Hand-eye coordination is extremely important for both schooling and everyday activities. Children will cope more easily with dressing, undressing, eating, brushing teeth. Determining the location of the object in space is important for them to be able to coordinate their own location in the world around them – the games become more coordinated and fun. Stimulating imagination and creativity is extremely important to develop children as brave, thinking and determined people. In order to complete a work of their own, children must be patient and focused, outline while respecting the boundaries, follow instructions and follow the rules in a group – the development of these qualities in children is extremely important for their entire life as part of society.
The Toy Library in Karin Dom has toys that are designed to stimulate the development of children aged 0 to 7 years. The toys in the library are selected based on high safety standards as well as their contribution in five distinct areas: cognitive, orientation, social-emotional and communication. Each toy in the toy library has a reference card that offers information and play suggestions.
In the art workshops for parents, we will use elements of the methods of recreational occupational therapy and art therapy methods. The methods, techniques and materials stimulate creativity, self-confidence, communication skills, as well as building personal qualities such as purposefulness, resourcefulness, cooperativeness, a sense of self-improvement and usefulness, increasing work capacity.
Through a variety of activities of a visual and artistic-applied nature (working with natural materials, felting, gobbling, decoupage, mosaic, knitting, recycling, working with leather, fabrics, yarns, etc.) the communication and sharing of the participants in the workshop is activated.
Facilitators guide the process and encourage parents to participate and achieve a balance between sharing, discussing current topics and achieving a parent-desired outcome – creating a product. Creative activities contribute to the promotion and stimulation of adaptive capabilities and creativity, self-knowledge and increasing self-confidence, the formation of communication skills and the general personal development. An atmosphere of sharing and communication is created.
Through art classes and art therapy activities, the siblings of the children who come for therapy at Karin Dom can interact with each other and with the specialists through the means of art. They will gain experience and skills in using different pictorial techniques and materials and will be able to express their feelings, emotions and develop their abilities. Children can process the accumulated emotions that are difficult to understand by participating in the art therapy process.
Children can present the products of the activities to their parents and, if desired, participate in exhibitions organized by Karin Dom.
The creative process is an experience that, over time, can lead to personal development and fulfillment. Through it, self-knowledge and development are reached.
Parenting is a challenge with many unknowns. In our role as parents, we sometimes face a number of questions and difficulties, look for solutions, helpful strategies or simply need to share with someone who is going through similar stages.
The trainings are a place to exchange experience and ideas, experience emotional states, increase knowledge and skills, a place where every parent meets others to share problems or concerns, difficulties, worries and joys. This gives us the opportunity to better understand our own situation and to learn from each other.
The sessions will include play activities and an opportunity to empathize and make sense of the experience.
We will cover the following topics:
• Effective strategies for setting rules and boundaries;
• Emotional communication with the child;
• Parental guilt and how to deal with it;
• Kindergarten/school – challenges and opportunities;
• Partnerships and parenting.
If desired and in case of different needs of the participants, the topics can be changed! The purpose of the training is to be useful in the current experiences of the included parents.
Play is the main activity for children between 1 and 4 years of age. It is a continuous process that does not require a specific time and place, only a desire. It is spontaneous and brings fun and experience for the child and the parent. For this, Karin Dom has launched two new Play Groups, which will be led by specialists in a pre-prepared environment at Karin Dom.
The groups are aimed at children up to 3 years of age and their parents. In the group, the children will develop their motor, linguistic and cognitive skills. They will learn skills to interact with other children and adults. Group play harmonizes the relationship between parent and child and at the same time gives the parent the opportunity to see other models for resolving conflict situations, for dealing with age crises and social-emotional problems in the child’s development.
Participation in all workshops, trainings and groups is free with prior registration.
