Two of the parents of children who visit Karin Dom Centre participated at the annual conference, Europe in Action 2011, with theme “Family Action for the Inclusion of People with Intellectual Disabilities in Society” which was held 12-14 May in Larnaca, Cyprus.
The conference promoted the social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and brought together representatives from governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations, parents and people with special needs.
Denitsa Georgieva and Svetlin Vladimirov, the representatives who Karin Dom sent to the conference shared that the most interesting topics to them were: Parental support groups or early intervention; Inclusive schooling and life-planning; Mobilizing family members as activists in disability policy discussions. They returned from the Conference very impressed with the presentations of people with special needs who have a good experience in self-advocacy.
During the Conference one of the parents, Mr. Svetlin Vladimitov presented Karin Dom activities and mainly The Early Intervention Programme.
Special focus of the Conference was the method of Personal Future Planning. This method can provide planning activities with and for people with intellectual disabilities. International experts introduced the method and provided opportunities for in-depth discussion in various Working Groups.
At the end of the Conference all of the delegates received Certificate of participation.
